The introduction of Bluetooth® Mesh networking comes at a time of pivotal industry growth, with ABI Research expecting 48 billion internet-enabled devices to be installed by 2021, of which nearly one-third will include Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth Mesh will make the largest initial impact in commercial lighting and industrial applications, and will eventually become a common technology in the larger Internet of Things ecosystem.

But don’t take our word for it. Here’s what a few of our 32,000 member companies have to say about Bluetooth Mesh.

ARM

Bob Morris, Vice President of Marketing, Wireless Business Unit
“The addition of mesh to the Bluetooth standard will open up significant opportunities for richer experiences in smart homes and building automation, enabling fresh waves of innovation across a range of IoT applications. Low-power connectivity is essential to bringing the next generation of secure IoT devices to life. The ARM® Cordio® radio IP provides part of a secure platform that enables SoC designers to quickly and successfully deliver these innovations to developers.”

Ericsson

Anna Larmo, Bluetooth Low Energy standardization leader
“As a founding member of the Bluetooth SIG and an active contributor to the specification development, Ericsson is happy to see the SIG adopt mesh capabilities to extend coverage of Bluetooth in a multi-hop network of devices for the IoT era.”

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

Joseph Bousaba, vice president, product management
“We’ve been a champion of Bluetooth Mesh networking for years and have worked closely with the Bluetooth Special Interest Group in its creation. The arrival of Bluetooth Mesh is a significant step towards industry standardization and adoption, and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. is working to support this effort on all of its future generations of Bluetooth Low Energy products for Bluetooth 5.”

Silicon Labs

Daniel Cooley, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Internet of Things Products
“We expect Bluetooth Mesh to become as ubiquitous as all other Bluetooth connectivity and anticipate a wave of new devices will hit the market, enabling hub-less mesh networks that extend the range and reliability of Bluetooth systems. Silicon Labs’ software, certified modules and SoCs are designed to accelerate time to market, backed by our mesh networking expertise, which has resulted in the deployment of more than 100 million mesh devices to date.”

Silvair

Rafal Han, CEO and Szymon Slupik, CTO
“Bluetooth® Mesh networking is the most robust and powerful low-power radio technology for connected lighting in commercial spaces, and it is the change the lighting industry has been waiting for. We’re excited the world will finally see the efforts and contributions of Silvair and all the other dedicated working group member companies – the Bluetooth Mesh revolution has officially started.”

Szymon Slupik, CTO, co-founder at Silvair, chair of the Mesh Working Group at Bluetooth SIG
“We are serious about the lighting industry, as we believe connected lighting will pave the way for massive IoT adoption. After two years of interoperability testing, and with contributions from the leading software, silicon, and lighting companies, we are certain that Bluetooth Mesh networking will be wildly successful.”

Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc.

Michael McDonald, VP of Platform Enablement Group
“As a founding member of the Bluetooth SIG and a leading supplier of low-power Bluetooth semiconductor solutions, Toshiba is excited and supportive of today’s Bluetooth Mesh and recent Bluetooth 5 standards announcements and activities. Together, these standards significantly increase the range and robustness of Bluetooth, extending its use to many new consumer, industrial, energy, and commercial applications, while maintaining backwards compatibility to the billions of Bluetooth enabled phones, tablets, and PCs that are already in the market.”
